Factors that Affects Climate

There are factors that affects our climate.

1. Altitude

As the altitude decreases, the temperature increases. As the altitude increases, the temperature decreases. If you are in an elevated area, expect that there is a low temperature.

2. Latitude

Places located at high latitude or far from the equator receive less sunlight than places at low latitude or near from the equator.

3. Ocean Current

Is a transporting of warm water and precipitation from the equator toward the poles and cold water from the poles back to the tropics.

4. Distance from bodies of water

Large bodies of water such as oceans, seas, and large lakes affect the climate of an area. Water heats and cools more slowly than land. Therefore, in the summer, the coastal regions will stay cooler and in winter warmer. A more moderate climate with a smaller temperature range is created. (e.g. Australia)

5. Topography

The Topography of an area can greatly influence our climate. Mountain ranges are natural barriers to air movement. The Coastal Range allows for some condensation and light precipitation.

6. Human Intervention

The more people abuse the environment the more the earth destroy.

7. Prevailing Wind

Prevailing winds affect the climate of an area. The direction of local winds is determined by the daily temperature variations. When the air over the land is warmer than the air over a body the wind blows from the water to the land and is called a sea breeze.
